Recite Quran

Canvas includes a full recitation and practice suite — record yourself reciting any verse and receive instant AI feedback on Tajweed, pronunciation, and memorization errors. Practice with interactive exercises, build foundational Arabic knowledge, set daily goals, and track your progress verse by verse.

  • A working microphone on your device with browser permission granted
  • A quiet environment for accurate speech recognition
  • Canvas_Recite feature enabled for your organization

Real-time recitation lets you record yourself reciting any verse and receive immediate AI feedback. The system uses automatic speech recognition (ASR) to capture your recitation and compares it word-by-word against the correct recitation.

  1. Open any Surah from the sidebar.
  2. Switch to Recite mode using the mode switcher in the bottom toolbar.
  3. The display updates — each verse now shows a Record button.
  4. Click Record on the verse you want to recite.
  5. A microphone indicator appears — begin reciting clearly.
  6. Click Stop when you’ve finished the verse.

Once you stop recording:

  1. Your audio is sent to the AI evaluation system
  2. The system transcribes your speech using ASR
  3. It aligns your recitation word-by-word against the correct text
  4. Errors are identified and categorised by type
  5. Results appear on screen — words are colour-coded based on accuracy

The evaluation typically takes a few seconds.

Work through a full Surah in sequence: after receiving feedback on one verse, click Next to move to the following verse. Your results for each verse are saved as you go.

Click Retry on the results screen to record the verse again. The new attempt is evaluated and saved alongside your previous attempts. Your full attempt history is accessible from the Statistics tab.

After recording a verse, Canvas displays your results as colour-coded highlights on the Quranic text. Each colour represents a different type of error.

Qari Practice is a guided recitation exercise. An AI Qari recites a verse for you to listen to and model — then you record your own recitation and receive AI-powered feedback.

Step 1 — Listen to the Qari

  • The AI Qari recites the verse
  • Follow along with the Arabic text — words are highlighted as they are recited
  • Listen as many times as you need

Step 2 — Record Your Recitation

  • Click Record when you’re ready
  • Recite the verse clearly into your microphone
  • Click Stop when you’ve finished

Step 3 — Receive Feedback

  • The AI evaluates your recording against the correct recitation
  • Results appear as colour-coded word highlights on the verse text

Qari Practice also supports a memorization variant where words in the verse are progressively hidden, challenging you to recall them from memory.

  1. Enable Memorization mode in the practice settings
  2. Words in the verse are covered
  3. Listen to the Qari, then recite from memory

The Alphabets & Symbols section covers the building blocks of Quranic Arabic — letters, vowel marks, and Tajweed symbols.

The Arabic alphabet has 28 letters, each with up to four forms depending on its position in a word. Smart Alphabets exercises help you recognise each letter in all its forms, distinguish visually similar letters, and connect letter sounds to their written shapes.

A letter or form is displayed — identify it from a set of options. Progress through all 28 letters systematically.

Arabic short vowels (harakat) are small marks written above or below letters that change the pronunciation:

Vowel MarkNameSound
َ (above)FathaShort “a” sound
ِ (below)KasraShort “i” sound
ُ (above)DammaShort “u” sound
ْ (above)SukunNo vowel — consonant stops
ً ٍ ٌTanwinDouble vowel sounds (an, in, un)

Tajweed symbols are special markers in the Quran that instruct the reciter on how to pronounce or treat specific sounds:

SymbolNameRule
مّ / نّShaddahDouble the letter sound
ـٓMaddElongate the vowel sound
ۚWaqfPermitted stopping point
ۛSaktahMomentary pause without breathing

Canvas lets you set personal memorization goals to give your practice direction and help you stay on track.

Goal TypeExample
Verses per dayMemorize 3 new verses every day
Pages per weekComplete 1 page per week
Minutes per daySpend at least 20 minutes on memorization daily
  1. Open Memorize from the top navigation.
  2. Look for the Goal or Settings option in the memorization dashboard.
  3. Choose your goal type and set your target.
  4. Save — your goal is now active and tracked daily.

Your streak counts the number of consecutive days you’ve met your memorization goal:

  • Complete your daily goal → streak increments by 1
  • Miss a day → streak resets to zero
  • Your longest streak is recorded separately
IndicatorWhat it shows
Today’s progressHow much of today’s goal you’ve completed (e.g. 2 of 3 verses)
Streak counterCurrent consecutive days streak
Weekly overviewA visual timeline of your activity across the current week

Canvas tracks your memorization progress at multiple levels — individual verses, full pages, and globally across the entire Quran.

LevelWhat it tracks
Verse levelWhich specific verses you’ve memorized within a Surah
Page levelHow much of each Mushaf page is memorized
Global levelYour overall progress out of the full 604 pages of the Quran
StateMeaning
Not startedVerse hasn’t been attempted yet
In progressVerse has been partially memorized
MemorizedVerse has been fully memorized and confirmed

Click any verse to expand it and see which words you’ve marked as memorized vs. still learning. Once you can recite the verse from memory, click Mark as Memorized.

The page progress view shows each of the 604 Mushaf pages with a completion percentage. The global progress indicator shows your memorization as a fraction of the full Quran — e.g. 42 / 604 pages memorized (7%).

The memorization timeline gives a visual schedule of your activity — days you practiced, how much you covered, and where practice was missed.
