Recite Quran
Canvas includes a full recitation and practice suite — record yourself reciting any verse and receive instant AI feedback on Tajweed, pronunciation, and memorization errors. Practice with interactive exercises, build foundational Arabic knowledge, set daily goals, and track your progress verse by verse.
Requirements
Section titled “Requirements”- A working microphone on your device with browser permission granted
- A quiet environment for accurate speech recognition
- Canvas_Recite feature enabled for your organization
Real-Time Recitation
Section titled “Real-Time Recitation”Real-time recitation lets you record yourself reciting any verse and receive immediate AI feedback. The system uses automatic speech recognition (ASR) to capture your recitation and compares it word-by-word against the correct recitation.
Starting a Recitation Session
Section titled “Starting a Recitation Session”- Open any Surah from the sidebar.
- Switch to Recite mode using the mode switcher in the bottom toolbar.
- The display updates — each verse now shows a Record button.
- Click Record on the verse you want to recite.
- A microphone indicator appears — begin reciting clearly.
- Click Stop when you’ve finished the verse.
What Happens After You Stop
Section titled “What Happens After You Stop”Once you stop recording:
- Your audio is sent to the AI evaluation system
- The system transcribes your speech using ASR
- It aligns your recitation word-by-word against the correct text
- Errors are identified and categorised by type
- Results appear on screen — words are colour-coded based on accuracy
The evaluation typically takes a few seconds.
Reciting Multiple Verses
Section titled “Reciting Multiple Verses”Work through a full Surah in sequence: after receiving feedback on one verse, click Next to move to the following verse. Your results for each verse are saved as you go.
Retrying a Verse
Section titled “Retrying a Verse”Click Retry on the results screen to record the verse again. The new attempt is evaluated and saved alongside your previous attempts. Your full attempt history is accessible from the Statistics tab.
Recitation Feedback
Section titled “Recitation Feedback”After recording a verse, Canvas displays your results as colour-coded highlights on the Quranic text. Each colour represents a different type of error.
Reading the Feedback
Section titled “Reading the Feedback”| Highlight | Meaning |
|---|---|
| Green | Correct — word was recited accurately |
| Red | Error — word had one or more mistakes |
| Orange / Yellow | Partial — word was mostly correct with minor issues |
Click on any highlighted word to see the specific error details.
Error Types
Section titled “Error Types”Tajweed Errors — violations of the rules governing correct pronunciation:
- Not applying Ghunnah where required
- Incorrect Madd (elongation) length
- Missing Qalqalah on applicable letters
- Incorrect Idgham (merging) of sounds
Verbal Errors — the word was mispronounced:
- Substituting one letter sound for another
- Incorrect vowel sounds (harakat)
- Dropping or adding sounds that shouldn’t be there
Waqf Errors — incorrect stopping (or not stopping):
- Stopping where continuation is required
- Not pausing at a mandatory Waqf sign
- Pausing in the middle of a phrase that changes the meaning
Memorization Errors — the word was skipped, substituted, or said out of sequence:
- Saying a word from a different verse or Surah
- Skipping a word entirely
- Repeating a word that shouldn’t be repeated
Recitation Score
Section titled “Recitation Score”| Score Range | Meaning |

| 90% – 100% | Excellent — very few or no errors |
| 70% – 89% | Good — minor errors to address |
| 50% – 69% | Developing — noticeable errors, needs more practice |
| Below 50% | Needs significant practice before moving on |
Verse Practice
Section titled “Verse Practice”Verse Practice uses drag-and-drop exercises to help you connect Arabic words with their meanings and pronunciations.
Accessing Verse Practice
Section titled “Accessing Verse Practice”- Click Practice in the top navigation.
- Select Verse Practice from the practice menu.
- Choose the Surah you want to practice.
Exercise Types

How an Exercise Works
Section titled “How an Exercise Works”- A verse is displayed with Arabic words shown as draggable cards.
- Translation or transliteration tiles are displayed in a separate area.
- Drag each Arabic word to its matching tile.
- Click Submit to check your answers.
- Correct matches are highlighted in green; incorrect ones in red.
- Click Try Again or Next Verse to continue.
Qari Practice
Section titled “Qari Practice”Qari Practice is a guided recitation exercise. An AI Qari recites a verse for you to listen to and model — then you record your own recitation and receive AI-powered feedback.
How a Session Works
Section titled “How a Session Works”Step 1 — Listen to the Qari
- The AI Qari recites the verse
- Follow along with the Arabic text — words are highlighted as they are recited
- Listen as many times as you need
Step 2 — Record Your Recitation
- Click Record when you’re ready
- Recite the verse clearly into your microphone
- Click Stop when you’ve finished
Step 3 — Receive Feedback
- The AI evaluates your recording against the correct recitation
- Results appear as colour-coded word highlights on the verse text
Memorization Mode
Section titled “Memorization Mode”Qari Practice also supports a memorization variant where words in the verse are progressively hidden, challenging you to recall them from memory.
- Enable Memorization mode in the practice settings
- Words in the verse are covered
- Listen to the Qari, then recite from memory
Alphabets & Symbols
Section titled “Alphabets & Symbols”The Alphabets & Symbols section covers the building blocks of Quranic Arabic — letters, vowel marks, and Tajweed symbols.
Smart Alphabets
Section titled “Smart Alphabets”The Arabic alphabet has 28 letters, each with up to four forms depending on its position in a word. Smart Alphabets exercises help you recognise each letter in all its forms, distinguish visually similar letters, and connect letter sounds to their written shapes.
A letter or form is displayed — identify it from a set of options. Progress through all 28 letters systematically.
Vowel Mastery
Section titled “Vowel Mastery”Arabic short vowels (harakat) are small marks written above or below letters that change the pronunciation:

Setting Goals
Section titled “Setting Goals”Canvas lets you set personal memorization goals to give your practice direction and help you stay on track.
Goal Types

Setting a Goal
Section titled “Setting a Goal”- Open Memorize from the top navigation.
- Look for the Goal or Settings option in the memorization dashboard.
- Choose your goal type and set your target.
- Save — your goal is now active and tracked daily.
Daily Streaks
Section titled “Daily Streaks”Your streak counts the number of consecutive days you’ve met your memorization goal:
- Complete your daily goal → streak increments by 1
- Miss a day → streak resets to zero
- Your longest streak is recorded separately
Goal Progress Display
Section titled “Goal Progress Display”| Indicator | What it shows |

Tracking Progress
Section titled “Tracking Progress”Canvas tracks your memorization progress at multiple levels — individual verses, full pages, and globally across the entire Quran.

Click any verse to expand it and see which words you’ve marked as memorized vs. still learning. Once you can recite the verse from memory, click Mark as Memorized.
Page & Global Progress
Section titled “Page & Global Progress”The page progress view shows each of the 604 Mushaf pages with a completion percentage. The global progress indicator shows your memorization as a fraction of the full Quran — e.g. 42 / 604 pages memorized (7%).
Timeline View
Section titled “Timeline View”The memorization timeline gives a visual schedule of your activity — days you practiced, how much you covered, and where practice was missed.
